I’ve always been a connector of people, even dating back to the schoolyard days when I was the kid who was friends with everybody on the playground and floated between social groups making connections. While I was growing up, I had never considered (or heard of!) a job as a recruiter, but it turns out that many years later I realized that this is what I was born to do. I love connecting people, and to this day I still get a buzz every time I introduce a talented person to an awesome opportunity.
After graduating with a Bachelors Degree in IT and Management, I ‘fell’ into technical recruitment in 2005. Since that time, I have successfully placed hundreds of candidates into employment and contract engagements at some of the best employers in Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
I spent the first 8 years of my career as a top performing agency-side recruitment consultant specialising in technical recruitment. During this time, I worked at both ends of the recruitment agency spectrum: the first 3 years at a large multinational corporate recruitment agency, and the next 5 years at a small start-up boutique recruitment agency. In both roles I always ran a full cycle 360 degree desk and I really enjoyed working with both candidates and clients on a daily basis.
In 2013, I started my first contract in talent acquisition (a.k.a internal recruitment). Since then, I have been applying the skills and experience I gained from my agency days to my new career on a daily basis. Working ‘in house’ has allowed me to work with businesses at both the tactical and strategic level to design and execute successful recruitment campaigns for immediate and future need, which is a nice change from the transactional, ad-hoc based recruitment style of the agency world.
After being fed up with the lack of quality recruitment marketing technology available to recruiters, I co-founded myRecdex (myrecdex.com) with the mission to empower individual recruiters with awesome technology to solve the key problems that are facing today’s modern recruiter. We’re currently building the BETA version of myRecdex and we are looking for early adopters to help us along the way.
I bring a candidate experience approach towards recruiting, and moving forward, my plan is to continue this career direction with the long term goal of becoming VP of Talent Acquisition for a major tech company like Google (it’s ok to dream big right?!).
I believe that the single biggest challenge facing the global business community is hiring smart, talented people who fit within the culture of a particular organization, and that is why a career in talent and recruitment can be so exciting and rewarding. I created this website to share my thoughts, tips and tricks on all things related to recruitment and talent acquisition, and to generate discussion around these topics for the benefit of the wider recruitment industry.
